Ooshima Yumiko

Ooshima Yumiko was born in August 31, 1947 in Tochigi. She made her manga debut in Weekly Margaret with "Pola no Namida" in 1968.
Her latest title is an essay manga "Goo Goo datte Neko dearu" serialized in Hon no Tabibito.

She's written a lot of excellent short stories. Yoshimoto Banana, a novelist, is heavily influenced by Ooshima manga.
Most of her titles are in print in Ooshima Yumiko Senshuu edition or bunko edition.
In 1997, she was found to have an ovarian cancer. She had an operation and has recovered. She wrote about that in some episodes in "Googoo datte Neko dearu", and "Jinsei no oomisoka" in Bungei Shunjuu 1999 October issue.

In 1995, Ooshima's pet cat sava died at the age of 13. She couldn't sleep or eat after that. One day she met a kitty at a pet shop. She took it home and named it Goo Goo. Goo Goo's therapy helped her get over Sava's death.
